Two of the most important things KTC members and supporters can do for our partnership with Washington State Parks and the U.S. Forest Service are to monitor and work on the trail. You can help us. Here's how:
Monitoring the Klickitat Trail
Any time you hike or bike the trail, you are monitoring it. You are noticing trash, or an area overgrown with blackberries, or other trail users. If you use an outhouse, you see if it is in OK condition. Your observations are very important.
Please copy and paste the following reporting details into an email message. After you have filled in the information, please email it to info@klickitat-trail.org
Reporting details:
1. Name of hike leader, or person doing the monitoring
2. Date of hike
3. Location of hike (like, "started at Fisher Hill bridge and went north 2 miles")
4. Number of people in group
5. Number of hours on the trail
6. Any observations you care to report. If you just say, "Everything was fine", that's a valid observation. But below are some ideas for things you might mention.
- Condition of outhouses. Missing outhouses
- Gates - were they open or closed? locked?
- Signs - were they still there? Any vandalism?
- Overgrown vegetation, trash, fallen rocks, fallen trees, or other trail hazards
- Wildlife. Cougar tracks, rattlers, deer, Eagles, otter scat, beaver work, etc.
- Flowers in bloom
- How many other trail users did you see? Did you encounter anyone else?
These are just suggestions of some things that might need mentioning. You don't have mention any of them, much less all of them. Short reports are very acceptable! |
